FAWNL Plate Quarter Final Preview
PREVIEW
AFC Fylde Women are back in cup action this Sunday when they welcome Leeds United Women to Kellamergh Park for the Quarter Final of the FA Women's National League Plate.
After the original fixture was postponed a fortnight ago due to a frozen pitch, this rescheduled Quarter Final sees the Coasters host Leeds United on Sunday 5th February, with kick-off at 2.00 pm.
Rick Passmoor's Leeds United side compete in the FAWNL Division One North and currently reside in seventh place with 16 points after nine games played.
Last time out, Fylde's exciting journey in this season's Vitality Women's FA Cup came to an end with defeat at the hands of Aston Villa Women in the Fourth Round Proper.
Despite the disappointment of exiting the competition, Danielle Young's Fylde team could take great pride from their spirited and hard-working performance against top-quality WSL opposition. It was undoubtedly a special occasion for the whole club.
Similarly, Leeds United bowed out of the same competition last weekend with an away defeat at WSL side Arsenal Women. However, it was also a proud occasion for the Whites to test themselves against top-flight opponents.
To reach the Quarter Final of the FAWNL Plate, the Coasters first had to come from behind to beat Doncaster Rovers Belles 2-1 in the First Round, before edging a thrilling Second Round tie against Boldmere St Michaels Women. With the scores level at 3-3 after extra-time, the Coasters sealed a dramatic 4-3 win in the penalty shootout to advance to the Quarter Final.
The winner of Sunday's game can then look forward to a home tie against Southampton Women's FC in the Semi Final.
