Matchday four of the 2024/25 FAWNL season sees the Coasters entertain the Hatters on Sunday 8th September, with kick-off at 2.00 pm.
Fylde joint managers Jake Williams and Steve Mainwaring will be hoping for a positive response from their side following back-to-back league defeats. Last time out, Fylde travelled to the North East to take on Middlesbrough Women in Stockton-on-Tees.
On an overcast afternoon, Middlesbrough raced into a two-goal lead inside the opening ten minutes before the Coasters halved the deficit when Iszy Binks scored a sensational goal directly from a corner kick.
At the start of the second half, Karri Chan came desperately close to levelling as her shot hit the base of the post. A couple of minutes later, the Boro Women added a third goal to extend their advantage. The hosts held out to claim a 3-1 victory, while the Coasters came away empty-handed with plenty of room for improvement.
Steve O’Hara’s Stockport County Ladies have made a promising start to their league campaign with one win, one draw, and one defeat after three games played. Much like the Coasters, County also suffered defeat in the FAWNL Cup Determining Round with a 3-2 reverse away to Liverpool Feds at the end of August.
As a result, Stockport County will join Fylde in the Preliminary Round of the FAWNL Plate, in which the Coasters will play host to Chorley Women on 15th September, while the Hatters will travel to Leafield Athletic on the same date.
Last Sunday, Stockport County left it late to rescue a point at home to Leeds United Women. Olivia Wilson’s exquisite lobbed finish gave County an early lead before the Whites levelled on the stroke of half-time when Kathryn Smith made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Leeds United then edged ahead as Amy Woodruff headed home from a corner. But with time running out, County substitute Jess Brady popped up at the back post to equalise deep into stoppage time and make it 2-2. There was still time for more drama as County’s Francesca Davies was sent off moments from full-time.
If last weekend’s matches are anything to go by, this Sunday’s encounter between the two sides will be full of goalmouth action. The Coasters will be looking to put in an improved performance and register maximum points in front of their home supporters.
